AI for electricians — where it really saves time

You pull cables, set up distribution boards, test installations. The paperwork gets done in the office in the evening. That is exactly where AI helps — not on the job site, but with the writing. Here is what actually works and what does not.

What this is not about

AI does not pull a cable, does not set up a distribution board and does not test an RCD. If someone tells you AI will double your turnover, walk away. What AI can do: take the office work off your hands that steals your evenings. For an electrical business that is often worth more than any big promise.

1. Write quotes and cost estimates faster

You know the quantities, the prices and the work steps. What eats time is putting it into clean wording. Give an AI chatbot the keywords for what is being done — "rewire an old building, replace the distribution board, 14 sockets, 6 switches, retrofit an RCD" — and have it build a clear quote text from that. You enter the prices and quantities yourself. The tool delivers the form, you deliver the numbers.

2. Answer appointment and customer emails

Enquiries, rescheduled appointments, questions about the invoice — all polite, clear and without long pondering. You enter the key points, AI drafts a friendly reply in your tone. Especially with difficult emails (a complaint, a delayed material delivery) it helps to have a draft made first and then smooth the tone, instead of typing in anger.

3. Reply to online reviews

Replying to Google reviews brings in new customers — but who feels like coming up with replies in the evening? Enter the review and have a suitable response suggested. With criticism the rule is: stay factual, keep it short, no justifications. AI helps you hit exactly that tone instead of sounding snippy.

4. Pre-draft inspection and documentation texts

You do the measurement and testing yourself to the standard — no one takes that off your hands and that is how it should stay. But writing up your findings clearly, drafting a handover report for the customer or putting a recurring advisory text into clean wording: that is where AI saves time. You provide the values and results, AI turns them into clear sentences. The technical assessment stays one hundred percent yours.

5. Website, social media and apprentice job ad

A short description of your services for the website, a post about the finished photovoltaic installation, a job ad for the new apprentice or journeyman. All texts you rarely write and that therefore take ages. AI gets you to a usable draft in five minutes that you only need to adjust.

Honest limits:
  • AI does not calculate correct prices. Costing stays your job.
  • It does not replace measurement or testing. You assess findings yourself to the standard.
  • It sometimes invents details. Read every text against the facts before it goes out.
  • Do not type sensitive customer data into free tools — the GDPR applies to you too.

Which tools fit?

To start, a single chatbot is enough (ChatGPT or Claude). Anyone who wants to half-automate reviews and emails should look at tools with EU hosting. You will find a sorted, honestly rated overview in our AI Tools Radar — there you can filter by use case instead of wading through advertising.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI worth it for a small electrical business?
Yes, if you have a lot of paperwork: quotes, emails, review replies. That is exactly where AI saves time. For installing, measuring and testing it changes nothing.
Can I have AI create complete quotes for electrical work?
The text part and the structure, yes. You have to enter and check quantities, prices and technical details yourself. AI writes the wording, it does not do the costing for you.
May AI assess an inspection report or an RCD test?
No. You do the measurement and testing yourself to the standard, that is your responsibility. AI only helps put your results and findings into clear wording.
Is my customer data safe with AI tools?
Use tools with EU hosting or business plans with a data agreement. Do not enter full address or personal data into free consumer versions.
